Decision To Use Atomic Weapons - Free Essay Example
The decision to use Atomic weapons is still a strong topic to this day. Many people support the use of Atomic weapons and many are against the use of Atomic weapons. All perspectives should be carefully examined to make an informed decision prior to commencing with a nuclear attack. Personally, I would not drop the bomb because of the consequences that will happen to innocent civilians. Many lives will be impacted from this decision; If they arent killed from the explosion from the Atomic weapons, they will be harmed from the radiation exposure. People will get sick from the side effects from the bombs. Homes, businesses, practically everything could be destroyed. If I were to agree to the use of atomic weapons, it would be to prevent the loss of more American lives. I believe Americans dont have a choice when other countries refuse to give up on their fight, hence the need to respond with swift action for the protection of life. I think it will show other countries that they cant threaten Americans with violence, and they will take our country more serious before they try to attack or threaten our country. From a military perspective, we will have to use Atomic weapons to protect our highly trained and skilled servicemen from further attacks. If the military chose to not use atomic weapons when the other countries were making threats to take over America, the Japaneses military could have taken over the country. Contrarily speaking, the military using Atomic weapons will be putting the servicemen at risk and in dangers way when dropping the bomb. If the planes are shot down, servicemen could possibly be taken as a prisoner of war. The military family members will be hurt or killed. According to David Emory SHI George Brown Tindall (2015). The bomb killed around 78, 00 people, thousands of Japanese soldiers and twenty-three American soldiers and twenty-three Americans prisoners of war housed in Japan. By the end the death toll was around 140,00 because more people died of injuries ?r radiation. (pg 910-911). This incident is a prime example of the negative repercussions that can occur to American soldiers from war activities. Military servicemen are highly trained and losing multiple expertly trained soldiers could be devastating to not only their unit but their families as well. Diplomatically speaking, one positive thing about using atomic weapons is the advantage the US would have with international diplomatic relations. During times of conflict, they would think twice before taking things away from the US or harming anyone. For countries that are not in alliance with the US, knowing they are up against many strong countries who are not afraid of using atomic weapon would be a strong deterrent for moving forward with negative actions. In contrast to this viewpoint, diplomatic relations may deteriorate for those countries that think the US is inhumane for using Atomic weapons. Tensions run high currently with many disputes over politics and cultures which can lead to unfavorable responses to difficult situations. Should the US decide to use atomic weapons, these countries may decide to cut off communication and possibly retaliate against us. Many people are for the use of Atomic weapons and many are against. I believe there will always be a discussion on if its right or wrong to use Atomic weapons. If Americans do use Atomic weapons many innocent lives will be taken away and if we dont our country could be taken over and innocent lives taken away too. Its a very hard decision to be for or against the use of Atomic weapons.
